Hi everyone, I hope you are all doing great! Meet Layla May, my precious Doxie mix that I adopted back in 2006. She has a lovely disposition and never has any bad days! When I adopted her I knew she had some issues in spite of only being around one year old, that makes her around 15 years old now according to the vets calculations!
She had always suffered from UTIs and different bladder issues, but in 2018 things got really bad for her and I actually didn’t think that she was going to make it, that’s when I found out that she had a bladder deformity she was born with. As she got older I noticed her incontinence was getting worse and worse.
Her new medical challenges meant having to change the way that I took care of her all around, I needed a lot more patience and a lot more time but I also needed a plan. She’s always been able to get up on the furniture and go for rides in the car etc., I didn’t want to take all of that away from her because she was having accidents often, so I had to brainstorm on what to do. At first the thought of having her wear diapers 24/7 was not appealing to me and I wondered if it would make her unhappy… but I thought I would give it a shot since I didn’t have any other options and I do love to keep a clean home! My home is my sanctuary and I should be able to share it with her like I always have.
So here we were, all these years later starting a new challenge together! We were both nervous and hesitant, my biggest priority is making sure that her quality-of-life is dignified and she still feels like herself, and for my mental sanity I would have to find a solution that worked for both of us. Enter Hartz dog diapers! These diapers are a great option for us because of many reasons, my top three are the comfort, they fit so well and are soft and gentle, they have 6 hour protection and my favorite feature, they have flash dry technology turning liquid into gel! It doesn’t hurt that the prints are so cute and stylish too! I highly recommend Hartz disposable diapers for your fur baby.
If you are new to being a dog parent or you have recently adopted a senior dog that has special needs or needed surgery or is recovering here are a few tips that will help you get by. First and foremost remember to have extra patience. An older dog can be hard of hearing and seeing, a lot of times it’s harder for them to follow commands because they simply can’t see or hear you properly. Next is mobility, their back legs tend to weak and so getting up and down stairs up and down a couch or a bed become impossible. Think about getting your dog a ramp or doggy stairs instead of allowing them to attempt to jump on or off of anything because they could get hurt. And finally diet, and a lot of older dogs have had to have teeth polled or have dental issues, not to mention sensitive tummies. Think about possibly putting your senior dog on a soft food diet or allowing them to try a few different types before you settle on one they are comfortable with. I hope you found this informative and Let me know if you have any questions at all!
