When I take the time to think about my mother I remember how much effort and time she put into her beauty routine. She taught me at a young age how to take care of myself in a healthy way, she avoided chemicals and toxins in every step of her beauty routine, and loved the benefit of oils.
My mother was born in Cuba and had a few different ethnicities, one of which was African (According to my ancestry report I am
about 30% African). I always enjoyed the stories she would tell me about her grandmother, which she was able to spend quite a lot of time with as a child. Unfortunately, since Cuba is communist when you leave you can’t bring much with you. So, all I have of my great grandmother are my mom’s memories of her, no photos or trinkets, just her memories and her traditions. My mom’s grandmother and mother taught her a lot about how to take care of her hair. Hair was very important to all the ladies in my family!
Because we are of mixed race our hair was always extremely difficult, hers more than mine but she used the same techniques on me as well. She loved using essential oils in our beauty routine she especially rose oil. She enjoyed doing research on the health benefits of different essential oils and then bringing them into her skin and hair routines. Because of what she taught me, I always try to avoid ingredients that are potentially harmful for my skin and even my hair.
When Pantene asked me to share my beauty “Hairitage” with them it hit that spot in my heart, that spot where you keep all of your sweetest memories of the ones who took care of you and came before you. My mother passed away five years ago but I will always have what she taught me. She would have absolutely loved my current beauty routine. Recently, I’ve been taking time out of my week to really reflect and self discover during my hair wash days. I’m currently using the Miracle Moisture Boost and Rosewater Shampoo and Conditioner, a part of Pantene’s Nutrient Blends Collection, which reminded me of when I was growing up. Not only are these products sulfate and paraben free, but they have soothing and hydration benefits for my thirsty hair type and tame frizz, not to mention they smell of roses, my mom’s favorite essential oil. The miracle moisture boost with rosewater collection Can be added to your hair story here
So, tell me, who is your biggest beauty influence?
Mine will always be my mother
